b.good wants you to be their 'cousin'

A tenant in one of Dedham’s chicest addresses is looking for their own Cousin Oliver.  While the nerdy, bespectacled little kid appeared in the final episodes of the Brady Brunch, b.good wants you to be there at the beginning of their series.

Each time b.good opens a new restaurant they offer one local customer free hamburgers “for as long as you shall walk the Earth.”  Appropriately enough for a business inspired by an uncle and who refers to their customers as their family, this winner holds the title of “cousin.”

The cousin is selected by sending in the best written application, video, dance-move, or even a bathroom foot-stool that shows their love for hamburgers. The winner will have their photo placed on a plaque, and the deadline for submitting an application is Thursday afternoon.

The fast food restaurant, which officially opens Friday at Legacy Place, is having a pre-opening all-you-can-eat party on Thursday night.  The entire menu of burgers, fries, shakes and salads is gratis, but you must possess an invitation by signing up for their e-mail list.

“I think it is going to be a great chance for people to get to know us,” co-founder Jon Olinto said.  “We hope lots of people come and check us out.”

The party, which runs from 5:30 to 8:00, will also feature a musician from the nearby Daddy’s Junky Music playing “acoustic hip-hop.”  While patrons dine inside, “Sidewalk Sam,” a Newton artist, will be outside painting a mural on the sidewalk.

The mural of Boston Celtic great Larry Bird will be similar to one done last year by Sam at the Back Bay T station.  According to Olinto, Bird is a hero of his and co-founder Anthony Ackil.  Their website indicates that the two first became friends in the sixth grade based on a shared love of the Celtics and a hatred of “the L.A. Lakers and school.”

The restaurant’s tag line is real.food.fast, and they bill themselves as a healthy alternative to other fast food places.  Each day the staff grounds their own beef and cuts their own French fries.   They say they make their food “the way they should be, by people not factories.”

Thursday night will also see a charity bowl-a-thon at Kings, another recently opened Legacy Place establishment.  All the bowling lanes, arcade games, shuffleboard and other attractions are free of charge, but a suggested donation of $25 is recommended for one of the ten Dedham-based charities benefiting from the event.
