Chairman Jim MacDonald read a letter outlining “generally positive news” regarding the contruction of Legacy Place at their meeting last Thursday. The letter, signed by Mark Hebert of W/S Development Associates, said that despite the winter weather and the challenges of the economy, construction continued on schedule.
In a potentially controversial move, Hebert reported that they have come to an agreement with Applebee’s to transfer the liquor license to King’s, a bowling alley and bar. Some Selectmen have raised concerns about moving another license to Legacy Place, which already has eight site specific licenses.
The Selectmen are concerned that too much economic focus will be diverted to the development, at the expense of existing commercial areas.Hebert said they plan to file an application by next week.
National Amusements, Whole Foods, Legal Sea Foods, and PF Chang’s have already received their licenses, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse has filed an application as well.Aquataine and Yard House are currently working on applications as well, according to Hebert.
The mall is over 90% leased, Hebert said, with recent signings including H&M and Brook Brothers. The general contractor is turning over spaces to the tenants so their contractors can ready the stores for openings this summer and fall.
Hebert said the off site mitigation work Legacy Place was required to do will begin next month and should be completed by June.He added that ChurchillPark was already complete and that an opening ceremony would be held in conjunction with the Little League parade on April 26.
