Christians around the world and in Dedham marked Good Friday yesterday, the day on which tradition says Jesus Christ was crucified.Church bells rang out at 3 p.m., the time at which the Bible says Jesus died.
At St. Mary’s Church last night the high school juniors and seniors from the LifeTeen program acted out the final events of Jesus’ life. This was the fourth time this week the teens put on the play. They performed it twice on Palm Sunday, at both the 9 a.m. and the LifeTeen masses. On both of those occasions the teens carried Jesus, played by Pat Gunning, into the church on an elevated throne as the congregation waved palm fronds.
The play was put on a third time on Wednesday for middle schools students who are part of the EDGE religious education program.Last night’s performance added a pieta scene at the end in which Mary held her son’s corpse after he was removed from the cross.
