The Veterans of Foreign Wars held a Valentine’s Day fundraiser last night to benefit the Fisher House. The Fisher House, which is currently undergoing construction at the West Roxbury Veteran’s Administration hospital, is a dormitory that allows family members of critically injured veterans to stay with them while they recuperate.
Based on the Ronald McDonald House model, the Fisher House will 20 suites, each with a living area, kitchen, and dining room.Families are allowed to stay in the house as long as they need to.
“This isn’t about the war,” said State Commander Ronald Patalano.“This is about supporting our wounded young vets. It’s been proven that they recover faster when their families are with them.”
The VFW’s Department of Massachusetts has raised over $30,000 for the project, and are still accepting donations. The fundraiser last night was a joint effort between the Dedham Post 2017 and the Ladies Auxillary, and honored 45 years of friendship between Gloria Primeau and Diane DelloIacono.
