The School Committee reorganized themselves at their meeting last night, with new subcommittee assignments and new liaisons to each of the schools.  School Committeeman John Healy was not present as he was away on family business, and was tentatively placed in several spots.

Andy Lawlor was reappointed as one of the Committee’s representatives to the School Building/ Rehabilitation Committee, though he is not a member of the School Committee.  The School Committee expressed a desire for Lawlor to move into an at large position on the SBRC should one arise, so that a second School Committee member could take his seat. There remains an empty seat on the subcommittee to develop the School Committee’s goals.

The appointment of subcommittees came four months late.  School Committee policy BDE states that subcommittees should be appointed at the Committee’s first meeting after the April elections, and does not provide for a later appointment. 

The Committee did elect a chairman and vice chairman at their April 29 meeting, but not a secretary as mandated by policy BDA.  At that meeting then newly elected Chairman Dave Roberts announced that a full reorganization would take place at their first meeting in June.  The Committee met twice in June, and once on August 5, but no subcommittees were appointed until last night.  No secretary has yet been elected.
